1. The Eiffel Tower wasn’t meant for Paris.
Paris, France is known for being the home of the Eiffel Tower. But, the Eiffel Tower’s original home wasn’t intended to be in Paris. Gustave Eiffel presented his plans to Barcelona, Spain, but the city rejected it and he was forced to re pitch his idea elsewhere. Now worth over 400 billion euros, and an iconic symbol of love around the world, Spain must be feeling pretty regretful now.
2. Post a picture of the tower at night and you could get in trouble.
From nightfall to 1am, the Eiffel Tower is a glimmering light display of over 20,000 light bulbs that sparkle for five minutes on the hour, every hour. You may know that it sparkles, but may be surprised to know that it is considered artwork and protected under copyright law, making it illegal to post pictures at night. 3. Adolf Hitler was an unwelcomed visitor of the Eiffel Tower.
When Adolf Hitler visited France during WWII, the French cut the elevator cables to the top of tower. This meant Hitler was forced to climb over 1,665 stairs to the top of the tower if he wanted to fly his Swastika flag.
4. The Eiffel Tower was initially a temporary monument.
Initially, the Eiffel Tower wasn’t meant to be a permanent landmark. It was built for the 1889 Paris Exposition and was going to be dismantled in 1909. The tower was saved however, by the French Navy when they added a large antenna to the top.

After 128 years, it is time for the Eiffel Tower to undergo some much-needed renovation. The €300 million renovation is beginning this year and will take 15 years to complete. The renovation will help improve security, reduce the long waiting lines, and include shelters to protect visitors from rain and snow.
