With a story as tragically romantic as Romeo & Juliet, it’s no small wonder a Valentine’s Day Festival is held in the most romantic city in the world. Each year, the week before February 14th, the city’s enter is decked out in hearts and red balloons for the Verona in Love Festival. There are concerts, performances, and special ceremonies in about every piazza, street, and famous Shakespearean locations. Illuminations and special decorations accompany not just couples through attractions, but those who are in love with love!
With so many activities, how do you choose what to do first? Here’s a few events that you shouldn’t miss!
Piazza dei Signori
As one of the most famous piazzas in Verona this square is especially exciting during the Verona in Love Festival! The whole piazza is turned into a giant heart with red carpet and local food, wine and gifts available for purchase.
Torre dei Lamberti
During the festival, the Lamberti Tower will be lit up in red. Climb to the top and enjoy a breathtaking view! It’s definitely something you won’t want to miss, especially when the city will be gleaming and decorated with red hearts!
Message from the Heart
A large notice board in the Old Market Courtyard is set up for visitors to send messages or dedications of love! Each message costs 3 euros and will go towards the Amici del Progetto Roberto. This nonprofit organization helps provide meals, school supplies, school uniforms and medical care to children in the Dominican Republic. Spread the love this Valentine’s Day!
Dear Juliet Prize
One famous tradition of the Verona in Love Festival is the Dear Juliet Prize. This prize is dedicated to the most fascinating and passionate love letters written to the beautiful Capuleti girl from lovers around the world!
Verona will be alive with music, themed dinners, and demonstrations. If you have never seen Verona, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to explore the city in all it’s glory!
